Cambium layer

The cambium layer is a thin and important layer of living cells. This layer is present between a plant’s bark and wood. While it is typically invisible, it plays an important role in plant growth. It makes xylem (wood) and phloem (inner bark). This helps the plant become stronger and thicker over time.

It is important to align the cambium layers of both the scion and rootstock during grafting. This helps the parts grow together and become a single healthy plant. It benefits farmers, gardeners, and plant breeders who want to grow more varieties of healthy plants.
