Air layering

Air layering is an asexual propagation technique where a section of a plant’s stem is made to form roots while it is still attached to the main plant. A small incision is made in the stem, and a moist wrapping with moss is wrapped around it. The moss is sealed with plastic wrap to retain the moisture. This provides an environment for the formation of roots.

Once the roots are formed and they grow a little stronger, they are detached from the parent plant and are sown in the soil. This is a method used for fruit trees, shrubs, and other plants that need support for their roots to grow. The new plant retains the genetic qualities of the parent plant.
